Gerbrand Adriaenszoon Bredero was a Dutch poet and playwright in the period known as the Dutch Golden Age.

The Bredero monument by Piet Esser was unveiled in 1968 at the head of the Nieuwmarkt and the Gelderse Kade. In my opinion, it is a beautiful and funny statue as a tribute to and in memory of the seventeenth-century poet and writer Bredero. Be sure to check it out if you’re in the area.
