About me
Ioannis Semitsoglou
Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, he dreamt of owning a camera as a teenager. In 1980, while visiting Skopje, Yugoslavia, he acquired his first camera—a Soviet Zenit. He began shooting film soon after. A part-time job at a local photo store followed, where he honed his skills developing and printing black and white photographs in a darkroom. Four years later, his work was showcased in his first photo exhibition at «Para thin alos», a cultural institution in Kalamaria, a suburb of Thessaloniki (Wikipedia). By 1991, he was developing and printing color film at «Photo Techni», a well-known wedding photography store in Thessaloniki. Shooting both color and black and white professionally, and hand-printing his own photographs, he felt ready to further explore the world of photography.
He held several exhibitions in Thessaloniki and Athens, focusing on portraits, street photography, travel, and cityscapes. In 2010, he embarked on a new career path, teaching film and digital photography for the Thessaloniki Municipality culture section for eleven years. Since 2020, he has embraced drone photography, expanding his creative horizons with aerial perspectives of wetlands, cities, landscapes, and seascapes, always maintaining a respect for nature. His work with drones allows him to capture unique vantage points previously difficult or impossible to achieve
